Official Obituary of
Gregory Ray Zillig
With humble acceptance of God’s will, and now free of all pain, Gregory Ray Zillig, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2024, in Goliad, Texas. He was born on May 21st, 1958, in Goliad, Texas.
He married Shirley the love of his life on June 5th, 1978. In their 46 years of marriage together they built a beautiful life and raised 3 daughters: Melissa, Amy, and Cindy. He was a devoted husband and father.
Greg was the epitome of a hard worker. He started working at a very young age working at Hand Handy Stop, Big John’s Café, and Jiffy Mart. He later went on to build pools, then ending his work career doing his passion, that he was very skilled at, which was carpenter work. He was a master carpenter and one of the best of his trade. He loved to build and was always so creative. If he didn’t know how to do something or have a tool to do it, he always figured a way out to get it done. His latest project and skill was knife making. He was also very outdoorsy and loved to fish, hunt, and bbq. His favorite place to be, besides with his family, was at his tank where he would spend most of his time. He cherished family above all else and took great joy in spending time and playing with his grandchildren and watching them grow and attending all sporting events. His grandchildren were his pride and joy above all else. He never failed to go above and beyond to support them in all their achievements.
His heart of gold, selflessness, and funny sense of humor touched all those he encountered and will never be forgotten.
“Therefore, you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.” John 16:22
His memory will forever be in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife, Shirley Zillig; his children, Melissa (Alex) Salas, Amy Zillig (Josh Clemons), Cindy (Robert) Flores, his 9 grandchildren; Samantha (Matt) Benavides, Alex III – Treybone, Dalley, Colter, Stetson, Deven, Nevaeh, RJ, and James; and his siblings, Elizabeth, Dale, and Leslie (Christy).
