“In 2009 the city issued 14,819 tickets based on pictures taken by the red light cameras. In 2010 that number dipped by more than 2,000 to 12,773. So far this fiscal year which ends Sept. 30, 7,218 have received a ticket in the mail…. So far this year the city has lost $36,170.  The reason: the city has to pay RedFlex , the company that operates the camera, a fixed cost of $584,400 this year.”

Police are now using undercover live human being police officers to catch red light runners at intersections with highest incidence of red light accidents.  RedFlex of Arizona is contractor that runs red light cameras in Austin .
